Cashmere is an exceptional material – soft, warm, elegant. And although it may seem fragile, with proper care it will remain beautiful for years. It just needs a little attention, not any complicated rituals. Here are five simple rules to help you keep your cashmere pieces in perfect condition.

1. Less is more: Don't wash cashmere after every wear

Cashmere has natural antibacterial properties, so you don't need to wash it after every wear. Usually, it's enough to air it out gently - ideally on a hanger for a while or folded flat out of direct sunlight. You only need to wash it after about 5-7 wears. A steamer is great for a quick refresh.

2. Wash gently by hand

Wash in lukewarm water (max. 30°C) with a mild detergent for cashmere is the most gentle. If you don't have such a detergent available, use a mild baby shampoo. Cashmere really doesn't like the dryer.

3. Drying at rest

After washing, gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring!) and lay the cashmere flat on a dry towel. Unfold it into its original shape and let it dry naturally – ideally lying down, away from heat and direct sunlight. Hanging it could stretch it out.

4. Pills? A normal thing

Cashmere may pill slightly in the first few weeks – this is natural and does not indicate poor quality. Use a fine cashmere comb to remove any loose dirt or a lint remover that will not damage the fiber. Pilling will usually reduce after a few washes.

5. Store it smartly

Always wash and dry your cashmere before storing it for the season. Then fold it (never hang it), ideally store it in a cotton bag and add a sachet of lavender or a piece of cedar wood. This will protect it from moths and moisture.

Cashmere isn't spoiled – it just likes to be soft. With a little care, it will stay beautiful, soft and timeless for years to come. And the good news? The more you wear it and care for it properly, the softer it gets.
